ABOUT

The research is being led by the University of Bristol, funded by the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research. We have been researching Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) for more than 30 years at the University of Bristol and provided much of the evidence to help reduce these deaths.

Parent Advisors

Babies need to sleep in a safe place, close to a carer for every sleep. Sadly, four babies every week die from SIDS, mostly in situations that are not safe. Parents and carers need advice and support that works to keep their babies safe. This research project will work together with families to:

  • Find out which babies are more at risk of SIDS
  • Find out how parents and carers make decisions about where and how their babies will sleep
  • Find out about what helps parents and carers keep their babies safe, and get enough sleep themselves
  • Develop a planning tool to help keep babies safe when the normal routine gets disrupted
  • Develop a website with resources for families and health professionals to use to help keep babies safe while they sleep, and help parents and carers get enough sleep
